The Poppy Fairy

I don’t know about you, but I’m absolutely in love with poppies. And when you come across a field like this… well magical things must happen and lucky for me, I had a beautiful subject to create magic with.

Girls of Summer

This little gal has my heart.  She is beautiful in every sense of the word.  She loves to dance and makes an excellent ballerina.  She is very helpful at home and loves her family.  She and her little sister (who loves to follow her around) love to play dress-up.

THE SENIOR EXPERIENCE

THE HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR EXPERIENCE

High School Senior Destination Photo Shoot in Santa Cruz, CA

There is no other you than you.  Just as no two finger prints are the same, you are unique in every possible way.  No one laughs like you laugh, no one walks like you walk, and no one loves the way you love.  You are perfectly unique in all that you are and do.

Don’t let others tell you who you are, and definitely not when it comes to your senior pictures.  Your senior photos should be telling the story of you.  Your fun, adorable, geeky, smart, confident, or shy self.  The way you design your room, the way you stylize your clothes, the sports or hobbies that you enjoy, and most importantly are the people you spend your time with.

Rebecca Kay Photography takes time to meet with you, to customize your senior photo session that will represent you and your unique personality and style.  We allow you to choose the experience and investment that works best for you.  One program doesn’t work for everyone and neither should it.  We realize this and no one should ever feel like they are getting less of an experience.

We are located in Sandy, Utah.  Although we service the areas between Bountiful and Provo, everyone is invited to come have an amazing experience us.  If you like to travel, we also offer destination sessions with high school seniors.  In the past we have done Las Vegas, NV and Santa Cruz, CA.  We currently have our sites on Hawaii!!

On our destination sessions we always have a hair and make-up artist to give you that fresh, just out of the salon look.  As a group we come-up with ideas and designs to have an Epic photo session and experience!

Contact us now to join our meeting on June 14th, 2017.

What I had missed for his funeral

Husband: “What are you doing up? It’s 4 am”

Me: I can’t find any pictures, I know I have to have some in one of these boxes!

Husband: Just go to bed, you can look in the morning.

Me: I can’t sleep, I need to find these pictures.  What are we going to show at the funeral.  I can’t even find any baby pictures.

Don't be caught unable to find current photos of your loved ones.

This was me 16 years ago this month.  After scrapping through everyone’s images we  were able to come up with enough photos of my brother as a young boy to put a small album together; and I found 1 only 1 image of him at the age of 15.  He had the most piercing beautiful blue eyes with this curly blonde hair. He had been a scrawny kid growing up, but when he turned 15 he just seemed to lose the little boy look and became built.  He enjoyed hitting his boxing bag and he walked or biked everywhere.  He worked at Carl’s Jr. and made up his own secret language.

There is more to his story, but bottom line is that I love him and miss him terribly.  I missed the chances to include him more, take him out for ice cream.  I held onto a gift that I bought him in Vegas, making one excuse after another before I got THE call one early morning.

I lost my future with my brother.  Not ever a chance to make it up to him.  Even his obituary photo was maybe 5 years earlier from grade school.

I try to be better today by offering photos to my family, but even still I miss all that I would like to do and be.  Thank goodness we have cell phones, but have you ever tried blowing that up for a funeral picture.  Not the best quality.

My message to you is to take time to have pictures taken of yourself and of your families.  I promise you that you will never want to be caught without a picture to put into someone’s obituary.  And print.. print your pictures from your phone and camera or photographer.. don’t ever let your pictures sit on your computer waiting for the day that it crashes. You may lose your most cherished memories.  I know I have.

Capture your memories and exist in photos.  You’ll be grateful you did.

Mrs. Utah

Taking the role of Mrs. Utah is not something to take on for the weak minded, it takes pure dedication. For this Utah mom, who is currently our Mrs. Salt Lake County, I believe she has the love and dedication that it takes to be the representative and role model for Utah.

Jennifer Russell Whittaker is on a mission to enhance the lives of teens that often turn to suicide as a way out from the pain and struggles that they may be experiencing. She is going to schools and events teaching teens that they are Made To Shine!

I am honored to have met this amazing lady and can’t wait to see her win the title of Mrs. Utah! Please send her your encouraging words and inspiration.

San Diego, Senior Model Shoot

What an amazing experience we had in San Diego!  Photographers from all over the country held a model competition where High School Seniors had a chance to win a once in a lifetime, all expense paid, model shoot.

BeachWhat an amazing group of Seniors!  You would think they have been modeling their whole lives, they did so well!

Beach 1We started off out on the beach which had to be a bit overwhelming for the beach-goers that were already there.  With over 200 photographers and plus our models, we definitely took over the beach that day.  The water was pretty cold, but with the sun setting, the scene was breathtaking!

Balboa 3Balboa 2Balboa 1For each shoot and location the Seniors had a team that stylized their photo shoot, made them over with hair and make-up, and stylized their outfits.

GoddessThe Goddess was probably one of my favorites.  I love the warmth and the look of these ladies.  Absolutely beautiful!

70s

The 70’s stylized shoot was a lot of fun.  These gals were dressed in the tallest shoes, with bell bottoms, or roller skates and t-shirts.

The Lost Boys

Have you ever seen the Lost Boys?  It was my favorite movies growing up with Keifer Sutherland as the main Vampire (whit-woo!).  I loved this stylized shoot and they didn’t leave a single detail out.  With their white contacts in and fangs to match, this threesome was not one to mess with!

Couture

This couture set was breathtaking!  With the sun coming down and the fog slowly making its way in, this little lady is very soft and dreamy.  I simply love this look!

How to Make a Successful Camera Phone Video

How to Make a Successful Camera Phone Video

Are you ever on a trip, experiencing a special occasion, or doing something spontaneous and taking pictures isn’t quite enough?  You want to remember the sound of the kids laughing or the way the ocean sprayed your face? Taking video on your phone is a great way to remember an experience at a different level, but also can be hard to get creative with- so here are a few tips to help you capture the moment on video with your camera phone.

  1. Back up and get the whole scene in a shot- make sure to get the big picture, film the event from far away.
  2. Zoom in- get close and film the little details of the event that made it special, like the rings at a wedding, or sandy feet on a beach trip.
  3. Get it from beginning to end- be sure to film everything with the timeline in mind. If you want to put all of the videos together, you don’t want the middle missing, or the end of the event not there- get it all on video!
  4. Kodak moments- try and record it so you’re capturing the “Kodak moments” or unscripted, real reactions and emotions, not just a bunch of people smiling and waving.
  5. Have fun with it! This is for you to remember this moment by, so make sure you are recording what’s meaningful to you, and what you loved most about that specific point in time.

Cleaning Up Digitally

Cleaning Up Digitally

Are you one of the many people who feel like January is a time for cleaning out the old and making room for the new?  Whether it’s the closets, bookcases or the garage, it seems our living spaces are begging to be reorganized and de-junked.  Your computer is no different.  Through your daily tasks with work and family, your computer can become over stuffed with unnecessary items, or cluttered with a lack of disorganization.  Either way, it can hinder productivity and weigh you down!

Take a day or two to sort through your digital files.  Organize things by category and also by date.  Move anything that is old and unused but still valuable onto an external hard drive.  Delete the unnecessary files and temp files.  Create separate files for your family members to keep their data in so that it stays organized and functional.

Your picture files will always be better organized when you save them by the year, then the month and then the event.  It’s smart to create all of your monthly folders for 2015 right now, so that when you go to download, the space is there and waiting.

To set it up, create folders for each year, then inside the folder labeled by the year, create a folder for each month, and in there have different folders for every photo shoot or event, so you can easily find where that specific picture you need is. We remember events in our lives by time, so it is easiest to use dates (month and year) to organize your photos, whereas if you titled each folder by the name of the occasion there is a thousand ways to write it, and the odds aren’t very good that you’ll remember the exact title.

When you have all of your files organized, enjoy the peace of mind that comes with being prepared for a new 2015!
